The Only was created in June of 1984 as the brainchild of Mary Mathis and Eddie Wolfe. They had met while Eddie was in Helicon and decided to put a band together around Mary's voice. At the time New Wave was huge and bands like Duran Duran, Missing Persons, Berlin and Human League were the rage. With the Addition of Dave Figlioli on keyboards, Dave Sliwka on drums and Ray Forgione on bass the band set out to conquer the Detroit scene. At that time Detroit was ruled by Toby Redd, Bitter Sweet Alley, The Almighty Strut, Adrenelin, The Act, The Cadillac Kidz, and The Look. Seduce, Scarlet and Halloween were just getting started. The scene was hot and the bars were packed to see good bands. The Only played many of the clubs like The Skylight Lounge and even appeared several times at Harpo's with acts like Adrenelin and the late Cub Coda. After recording 3 demos of 4 songs each they caught the attention of the Loyde sisters of Ready For The World fame. These fine ladies searched for a record deal in a highly competitive market. The band completed their 4th and most ambitious demo in the spring of 1987. This demo consisted of ten songs. In the end a total of twenty six songs were recorded. What appears here are the original mixes of a few of their songs but the entire catalog is scheduled for remix and will be available sometime in 2007. These songs are copyrighted by the various members of The Only in 1985, 1986, and 1987. They were originally published at the time and are now made available to you by Black Wolfe Records.
