Ronin Selecta is the headlining Drum and Bass Dj representing BangTech12 and Bassdrive Radio. Aaren aka Ronin Selecta comes from a long line of musicians. Almost all of his family plays at least one instrument. His grandfather is a Chinese Classical musician and has taught some of the bigger virtuosos in classical music today. Aaren's own teachings began when he six years old with the piano. From there he took on the saxophone and the drums as well as the electric, acoustic and stand up bass. With these talents, he performed live music for many years in many different groups and music genres. These include Blues, Funk, Rock, R & B, Soul and Fusion Jazz. Aaren has also been involved with a folk music project and sound design for live theatre. With such diversity, it is no surprise that he has worked with Gillian Eaton from the London Royal Shakespeare Co.
In 1995, Ronin Selecta was introduced to Jungle. From that moment, he has taken this genre of music to the limits. Performing at full scale events, parties and night clubs from coast to coast including Groovetech in San Francisco to CBGB's in New York as well as holding down many residencies over the years including the Labyrynth, Motor Lounge, Tonic, The Magic Stick and the longest running D & B night in Michigan which was "Breakbeat Etiquette" at the Carbon Lounge. In 2005, Ronin started a new Residency at the Necto in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This was the legendary Hydro night that ended in August of 2007.

Aaren has many accomplishments locally and Nationwide. In 2000, he performed at the inaugural D.E.M.F. as the first Drum and Bass Headliner. He was cited as the youngest performer to grace the stages of Hart Plaza. To follow up this performance, Aaren compiled and recorded "Unity Gain" Michigan's First and Only all D & B compilation featuring 14 exclusive tracks all on one cd all mixed from acetate dubs. Some of the songs on this release were exclusive tracks from Soundmurderer and SK-1 (Todd Osborn and Tadd Mullinix.) The acetate dub plates were cut by the legendary Ron Murphy at NSC. The papers reviewed it and again complimented him on success awarding him four stars. Following the 2006 D.E.M.F. the Detroit Free Press heralded Ronin Selecta as "The Highlight of the First Day of the Festival." From 1997 to the present day, Ronin Selecta has been a Dj for Rewind! Records which is headed by Todd Osborn. Ronin only performs under this label when he is playing their style of Ragga Mashup Jungle. His other current project began in 2005 where Aaren is a host for Sociopathdnb on Bassdrive Radio which is the number one online Drum and Bass Radio Station. The show was started alongside Dj Temulent from the Ohm Resistance / Obliterati record label.
With such a strong and diverse musical background, Ronin has an equally strong and diverse list of influences. These include: Early Eddie Hazel Funkadelic, Miles Davis circa 1970's, Charles Mingus, Jimi Hendrix, Fishbone, early 90's East Coast Hip hop, Electro and of course Drum and Bass. He also listens to a lot of Reggae, Dancehall, Dub, Jazz Piano, Brazilian Music as well as Indian and Japanese Classical Music. As a Musician, Ronin Selecta can perform on many different levels and always does.
