Detroit Docs International Film Festival Announces Festival Dates.
Legendary American Documentary Filmmaker Les Blank in Attendance.
Detroit, MI - August 13, 2008 – The 6th edition of the highly acclaimed Detroit Docs International Film Festival will take place Oct 29 – Nov 2, 2008 and feature over 65 documentary films from around the world and around the block.
Legendary documentary filmmaker Les Blank will appear at the Detroit Film Theatre at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Thursday, Oct 29 from 6pm -10pm with a special retrospective of films, a public reception and Q & A with attendees.
The subject of many retrospectives, Les Blank has won numerous awards for his unique films including the American Film Institute's Maya Deren Award in 1990 for outstanding lifetime achievement as an independent filmmaker.

Mr. Blank’s visit is funded through the Wayne State University Department of Communication.
Other festival venues include 1515 Broadway, across from the Michigan Opera Theatre, which will host a majority of the festival screenings, including a free kick-off documentary film screening Wednesday, October 28 at 7pm, co-presented by festival partner Detroit Public Television.
A special MADE IN MICHIGAN film screening, featuring locally produced films will take place at the Detroit Film Theatre on Saturday, November 1 from 1-3pm.
Founded in 2002, the Detroit Docs International Film Festival has proven to be an important ongoing cultural event in SE Michigan for both filmmakers and festival attendees. The festival seeks to showcase the best in contemporary documentary film, from the traditionally styled documentary, to the documentary film that pushes the boundaries of both form and content.
Detroit Docs is presented by the Detroit Film Center, a non-profit media arts center supporting local independent filmmaking, with assistance from the following partners:
