Will Apple and Nintendo Join Forces?

At some point in your life the TV in your house will become nothing more then a glorified computer monitor linking your internet and Television viewing into one beautiful component. DVD's will become obsolete just as much as CD's have to an iPOD generation, with massive hard drive storage (or Cloud Computing) in the same size format as a DVD player itself. As technology progresses, and we as a generation begin to multitask multimedia (photos, videos, email, web, games, all on a phone) it is only a matter of time before we will be purchasing components that do more then we are used to them doing. The leader in those components right now is the XBOX 360, with its newly launched dashboard, renting movies, playing games, watching DVD's, they are slowly preparing themselves for a massive move which I see as their next generation counsel. (The next new counsel will not be only about graphics)

It was about 5 years ago that I was hanging out with friends talking about the merger of internet and TV becoming one, and it wasn't until the Wii and Apple TV came out that unanswered theories started to come together.

With Apple making a strong move to the communication world launching it's industry changing iPHONE, there is little to no argument Apple is interested in being a leader (if the THE leader) in the communications industry. It's no secret that Apple and Microsoft are tech-enemies and with Microsofts latest commercial "I'm a PC" rants, it's pretty official that Apple has put a hurt on the Giant.

Let me play on a little theory here if I may. The new dashboard on XBOX 360 competes pretty heavily with Apple TV's features, and whatever comes out on their next gen counsel will feature many more. Where will that leave Apple TV? My opinion is this:

Apple will most likely NOT launch their own video game system. But what I see them doing is partnering with someone that fits quite well with where they seem to be going. That company would be Nintendo. For some reason I've always felt that the Nintendo's style slightly resembled that of Apple's. With internet browsing and games on the Wii, along with TV remote style controls, it wouldn't be too hard to believe the two companies coming together to tackle the attempts Microsoft is trying to make.

The only thing I see as a deterrent, is that both companies don't seem to be hurting, and usually that is what creates a merger. But then again, the two may create some kind of relationship much like that of AT&T and Apple. Who knows, I might be crazy, but look for this to happen between 2010 and 2020.

More power! Arr arr arr arr arr! I see your point, but I highly doubt that Nintendo and Apple will be making a merger. I do see them working together though at some point in time. I honestly think we'd see an Apple/Microsoft merger before all that. I can see the headline already: "Steve and Bill... Back Together! And This Time, They're Taking Over The World!" LMAO SJ - FREE SHOW @ WAYNE STATE DEC 5!

lol, if Nintendo has a part in making the terminators, at least they'd be cute and look like yoshi.

There is a big problem with this. When Apple and Nintendo merge in the future, they create the terminator arm. Then... we're pretty much all screwed.

I doubt this would happen. Not that it's not a great idea; it is. However, Nintendo wouldn't partner with an American company when it could just as easily team up with NEC or Sony. It's not that Apple and Nintendo are competitors, but US and Japan marketshares are. You're right though, CDs have long since died, and DVDs (except when on sale for $3 on Black Friday) don't sell much either. It might be a while though, before we can get people to dump their TVs for a computer though. I still see them as two different things, and while you can add features to a TV, it's still primarily going to be used for watching programs. While a computer is used for the internet and storing data. Combining the two seems redundant, as most people have both. I think slowly adding features to the existing TVs until it's not such a big jump is the way to go. It could happen.

You are probably right. The world is evolving...or should I say technology is evolving. It all seems like a Tim Taylor wet dream.
