M L Davis, a Detroit Denby alumni hails from the eastside and knows what it means to be a "Rose that grows from the cement".
The hardness that Detroit has been known for, also develops, a deal of character in a man. "I learned how you have to grind to get what you want from an early age, just to survive." "Using my humor kept me out of trouble, and able to walk into any neighborhood I wanted to" says Davis. Growing up in the era of the BK'S and Errol Flynn's, ML learned the right things to say and stayed within his boundaries which happen to be Mack AVE. On either side of Mack, his walk could be fatal, but he survived.
ML took his hard interior and softened his exterior with humor and made it out the hood.
I went to California to get away from the Rat race and ran right back into it in Compton where the Crips and Bloods were just getting started. I thought they were behind, because I just left that.
I stayed safe by attending Compton college and getting the needed education to hone my comedic timing and explore the Hollywood machine.
Now is the time for the machine to hit Detroit with the untapped talent that is here, and show some growth to the economy. It's time to come together, without hateration, but to work as a team, as the Dirty south has done.
I've learned everything that was needed to bring me back to the D at this time and help bring "Motown" back as a film town, amongst a failing automobile industry.
