| Guinness World Record for Fastest Round of Golf Set at Boyne Mountain |
| Jul 25, 2008 |
| Boyne Falls, Mich. (July 22, 2008) - Michigan's Boyne Mountain Resort and News/Talk 760 WJR, based in Detroit, have successfully broken the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the Fastest Round of Golf. Despite rainy conditions at the event's start, over forty participants including many BOYNE golf professionals, gathered for the attempt and achieved their goal with an impressive time of 7 minutes, 56 seconds on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Boyne Mountain's Monument course.
Golfers were strategically placed on the course's tee boxes, along the fairways and on the greens. The timing began once the opening tee ball was struck with golfers in the fairway running to hit the ball as it came to rest. When golfers on the green sunk the putt, the player on the next hole immediately hit their tee shot. Video of the event, official timing, two elected officials and a minimum 6,000 course yardage were mandatory requirements. Boyne Mountain's successful attempt utilized three holes played consecutively six times for 6,096 total yards.
"After our practice round was 9 minutes, 10 seconds and there were some kinks in there, I knew we had a shot at it," said Dan Turcott, BOYNE events professional. "The record breaking round was magic - we were hitting fairways, in landing areas, on the greens, with efficient putting and it was just incredible."
Pending final confirmation from GWR, the Boyne Mountain /WJR team broke the previous record of 8 minutes, 47 seconds set by WJR's sister station, WBAP, at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound, Texas in August of 2003.

Boyne Highlands
Horseback Trail Rides and Live Birds of Prey programs expand family offerings
Harbor Springs, Mich., (July 2, 2008) - Boyne Highlands Resort has unveiled new amenities to broaden the resorts' summertime offerings. Equestrian activities including Pony, Carriage and Horseback Trail Rides, and a Live Birds of Prey educational program are available this season in addition to the resort's four golf courses, par-3 course, abundant hiking and biking trails, scenic chairlift rides and the popular Young Americans Dinner Theatre.
Guided Horseback Trail Rides are courtesy of a partnership with Birchwood Farms of Harbor Springs. Resort guests and area visitors can explore rolling pastures and wooded terrain on Boyne Highlands grounds each Thursday through Sunday with one-, two- and four-hour rides for $45, $80 and $120 per person, respectively. Rides depart at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Children too young for trail rides, ages 8 and under, can delight in Pony Rides escorted by handlers along a gentle walk through the pasture with 15-minute rides for $25. Carriage Rides can be booked in one-hour increments and accommodates groups up to sixteen people. To book a Pony, Carriage or Horseback Trail Ride, please call 231.526.3001.
Before saddling-up for a trail ride, meet the resort's newest guests, four Highland Cows. The Scottish breed of cows, distinguished by their long outward spreading horns and lengthy wavy pelts, graze the adjoining horse pasture near the equestrian facilities.
With an emphasis on nature, the resort's new Live Birds of Prey program happens every Saturday starting at 7 p.m. and is free of charge. Gather the family on the lawn near the Main Lodge and join local experts from NorthWings, a non-profit division of SEE-North, as they feature live birds such as a Barred Owl, Golden Eagle and Eastern Screech Owl and provide hands-on learning with feathers and bones, creative crafts and games.
"We are excited about our new activities and the expanded entertainment options that are now available to families vacationing during the summer months," said Brad Keen, Boyne Highlands Resort general manager.
Boyne Highlands Resort was distinguished as having kindred character to the rugged and mountainous regions of Scotland when founded by Everett Kircher in 1963. Kircher sought out castle-like turrets, detailed stonework and the use of heavy timbers throughout the resort to replicate the beauty and architecture of the Scottish Highlands and still today, resort guests can experience the sounds of bagpipes, a selection of ales, common area d?cor, equestrian activities and Highland Cows to carry out his pursuit.

| BOYNE reinstates the "Classic Golf Experience" - Caddy service begins on The Heather. |
| Feb 27, 2008 |
| Boyne Highlands' Heather course is proudly offering the return of caddies in 2008. The Heather, designed by highly acclaimed architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. (completed in 1966), is a classic parkland layout ideal for walking. Resort guests and golf aficionados will surely enjoy the caddie experience by taking a walk back in time and experiencing the game the way it was meant to be.
In addition to the caddie program, guests can also take a forecaddie during a golf round. The fundamental difference between a caddie and forecaddie is that a caddie and player walk together and a forecaddie runs along with players who are in a cart. Both caddies and forecaddies assist golfers in many ways during a round by carrying clubs, reading greens, club selection and yardage, raking traps, cleaning clubs, and tending the flagstick, all in order to make the golf round and the BOYNE experience the best it can be.
Forecaddies are a standard service from 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM on Saturdays and Sundays from June 14-August 31. The forecaddie fee is $15 per person and caddies are $35 per person (gratuity not included) and require advance reservation. |
